The Sakhu School of Psychology is an African-Centered training program offering live and online continuing education activities. The Sakhu School is a National Board for Certified Counselors, NBCC-Approved Continuing Education Provider and may offer NBCC-approved clock hours for events that meet NBCC requirements. The Sakhu School of Psychology solely is responsible for all aspects of the program. Our program offers credit to licensed professional counselors, licensed marriage and family therapists, licensed clinical social workers. and other mental health professionals who want to enhance their skills with clients of African descent and other clients as well. Most states accept NBCC approved credit for licensure renewal. Please verify with your state's governing body to ensure that yours is among them. The Sakhu School of Psychology specializes in culturally competent training for counselors who serve clients of African descent. Our school further seeks to educate therapists about the various nuances and overt and covert values that affect the therapeutic process and historically low retention rates among African-Americans in therapy. Sankofa Psychological Services is an African-centered, counseling and training center. We specialize in culturally competent, integrative and wholistic therapy for individuals, couples, families and groups. We offer services for children, adolescents, teenagers and adults. We also provide continuing education, clinical supervision, in-service and diversity training and personal case consulting to other therapists.
About the names:
Sakhu is the Kemetic (Ancient Egyptian) concept that the word psychology is derived from. It means the soul and refers to the wholistic study of the science of the mind and all spiritual / mental processes.
Sankofa is a Ghanaian (West African) concept that symbolizes that fact that one must know where s/he is coming from to know where s/he is going. The concept of Sankofa is informative in terms of understanding our therapeutic and educational orientation. Sankofa Psychological Services specializes in culturally competent therapy for African/African American individuals, couples, families and groups. We also have services for children, adolescents, teenagers and adults. In addition, we offer continuing education programs, clinical supervision, general diversity training and personal consulting.
Olisa Tolokun-Ajinaku, LPC, CACP, LAC is the founder and president of the The Sakhu School of Psychology and the executive director of Sankofa Psychological Services. She is licensed as a Professional Counselor in Colorado and Georgia. Ms. Tolokun-Ajinaku also holds a cultural competency certification in African-Centered/Black Psychology from the Association of Black Psychologists. In addition, she is licensed as an Addictions Counselor and she is a Certified Systemic Play Therapist. Ms. Ajinaku is also a spiritual life coach.
Ms. Tolokn-Ajinaku, has over 20 years of simultaneous experience in counseling and higher education. Therefore, our continuing education programs are dynamic and integrative, reflecting current trends and sound research methodology.
In addition to our highly capable and well trained staff, guest lectures and trainings are often offered by other distinguished psychologists, and counselors.
Our continuing education programs are offered in several forms including live, lecture and experiential styles, and internet education.
